Premenopause
Often
the first sign of hormone imbalance is emotional fragility. When a premenopausal
woman is experiencing PMS, including headaches and any of a number of
symptoms, "mapping" her cycle begins the road to hormone balance. Mapping
the cycle is accomplished by providing a saliva sample every 2 or 3 days
for one cycle, 11 samples. This test gives us 11 samples of Estradiol,
11 Progesterones, 1 Testosterone and 1 DHEA(S). A chart is produced connecting
the 11 levels of Estradiol and Progesterone. Dr. Bivins can now analyze
timing of events, hormone production compared to normative data, ratios
of Estradiol to Progesterone and distribution of hormones.
TIMING
OF EVENTS
The follicular phase should normally be 12 to 14 days, midcycle 2 to 3
days and the luteal phase at least 12 days.
PRODUCTION
AND RATIOS
Your Estradiol and Progesterone levels are compared to normative data.
Depending on the day of the cycle ratios of Progesterone to Estradiol
should approximately be 22/1 to 28/1.
DISTRIBUTION
Often, due to maladaptation to stress, we see a luteal phase deficit of
Progesterone which can add to Estrogen Dominate symptoms, sleep difficulties,
bone loss, and inability to "shut down at night."
Abnormal
values of the above can create PMS, migraine headaches, increased risk
for cancer and osteoporosis.
