I was referred to Dr. Bivins by a Holistic Health Practitioner who had been treating me for chronic pain following an automobile accident. My injuries had been complicated/ aggrivated due to an undiagnosed adverse drug reaction to the muscle relaxants prescribed by my Primary Care Physician. Rather than relaxing the muscles that had been injured from the accident, the drug interaction caused constant and severe spasms in every major muscle group. Over the weeks following the accident, I lost a lot of weight (more than 50 lbs) and my immune system became increasingly compromised. I was in constant pain, couldn't hold down food and was constantly getting sick. After repeated visits to my healthcare provider with no relief, they diagnosed me with an eating disorder and psyciatric issues as the core cause of my symptoms. With that diagnosis, I sought out alternative methods to resolve my health crisis.

A doctor at UCSD Medical Center identified and resolved the drug interaction, which finally ceased the muscle spasms. I then started working with the H.H.P. and Dr. Bivins to restore my health.

Dr. Bivins ran tests to check my adrenal function, my digestive funtion, my ability to neutralize free radicals and to assess my liver function. The results showed that I had severe adrenal depletion and I was not neutralizing free radicals very well. I also had some intestinal permeability, which contributed to allergic reactions to foods that I had not been sensitive to in the past.

I was put on the adrenal protocol, a pro biotic and support antioxidant Within a few weeks I was eating regularly again and not feeling so emotionally frail. My allergic reactions to foods started to diminish and I was gaining strength physically.

My progress has been slow, but steady. In hindsight, I believe I had severely compromised adrenals before my accident and the situation just went from bad to worse after the accident. I had found no assistance with my adrenal depletion at any point with my healthcare provider and am amazed that they are so unaware of adrenal insufficiency and it's symptoms.

I continue to monitor my adrenal status and adjust my lifestyle as needed to stay healthy. I do not know what my life would look like today had I not received this intervention, but I shudder at the thought. I used to think that my situation was some strange anomaly, but now realize that this is a very common situation that is overlooked 99% of the time by traditional medicine, and is the cause of untold suffering in countless numbers of individuals. I am a firm believer in functional diagnostic medicine and look forward to the day it becomes part of mainstream medicine. Thanks for being in business!

Doctor Daniel Bivins has been very helpful to me in the restoration of my health. When I first contacted him a few months ago, I had been taken off my thyroid medication by my internist due to heart irregularities. That left me with low energy, muscle weakness, and other unpleasant physical sensations, including heart palpitations. My doctor wanted to medicate me for the heart palpitations even though I had no heart problem. I knew I did not want to go the medical route as the medications had serious side effects, and I had always been one to want to treat the underlying cause of a problem, rather than just to medicate it.

That is where Dr. Bivins came in. My husband found him for me by doing some research on the internet. Dr. Bivins instilled confidence in us that we could find out some of the health problems through simple laboratory tests, especially by checking the hormone levels. After several tests, we found that my body was lacking hormones and there were digestive problems also. For several months during the year 1999 through 2000, I became afflicted with a progressive debilitating ailment characterized by, among other symptoms, some previous, some new, back pain, loss of appetite, weight and energy. To further complicate my problems, I had become so weak, I lost my ability to bear any weight on my legs and therefore could not stand, much less walk. I had become bed-ridden.

Various forms of treatments and medications were attempted by the healthcare practitioners that were responsible for my health and welfare. However, at this time they appeared to have not a clue to what had taken control of my body and some major functions.

On or about Jan 2001, into the battle of this grueling, defiant condition, and after consulting with as many healthcare practitioners that will speak to me, I came to know of Dr. Bivins. I believe that, but for the grace of God, the caring and vigilance of my wife, who had the first of several telephone conversations with Dr. Bivins, I would probably not be among the living today. My theory is strengthened by the fact that I was no longer on pharmaceutical medications.

Jan 25, 2001 was my first visit with you . I have felt unhealthy for 2 years almost and now I am starting to look at life a little healthier each day.

My headaches have gone (which I had every day). Pain is starting to go away in my stomach and rib and back area. Pain in my right leg, foot and hip area has tremendously improved over my treatments and visits with you.
